Do I need a reservation to pour a candle?
Reservations are strongly encouraged for groups of all sizes and can be made here via Yelp for parties of 8 or less. We will do our best to accommodate walk-ins, but note that there may be a wait depending on the day and time. How long does it take to pour a candle?
This entire process of smelling, selecting your jar and fragrances, designing your label, and creating your custom-scented product takes about one hour, but it’s up to you and how quickly you’d like to move through the process (larger groups can take up to two hours). You are welcome to enjoy a beverage while seated at the Fragrance Bar, available at our Indianapolis locations and Grandview, OH location (N/A beverages available in our Columbus Short North + Worthington shops).
Candles then take ~2 hours to cure before they are ready to take home. This is a great time to visit one of our neighbors for a bite to eat or a drink or do a little walking around the neighborhood for some shopping. All of our stores are located in walkable neighborhoods bursting with local charm, just waiting to be explored! Visit our store pages for specific location, parking, and dining suggestions. If you are unable to pick up your candles the same day, you are welcome to pick them up anytime in the two weeks following your visit.
Note: If you wish to pour a candle and pick it up the same day, please be sure to reserve a time at least three hours before close (view shop hours here) to ensure your candle has time to fully cure.
How much does it cost to pour a candle?
Pricing is dependent on the size and style of vessel that you choose to pour into, with options starting at $24. Click here for a full price list (pricing and availability subject to change). We source a wide variety of options and often feature ceramic vessels from local vendors, so selecting a vessel as unique as you are is part of the fun! In addition, everything in the store is mix-and-match, Buy Three, Get One Free - your fourth item is free of equal or lesser value!
Note: We are now a cashless business and accept all major forms of credit cards.
Is there an age minimum to pour? Are children allowed?
Children are more than welcome to come pour with us! Kids of all ages (1-92!) will have fun creating their own custom candle. Younger children will need the supervision of an adult throughout the process (reaching the top candle shelf, reading, writing, pouring, etc.).
Can I reuse a candle vessel I already poured into? What about a vessel I love from home?
Yes - and kudos to you for thinking of the environment! Bring your clean, empty P&B vessel into the shop and you can pour into it again for $5 off the price of a new vessel. The vessel must be free of any cracking or damage to ensure a safe burn. Have a vessel that isn't ours but want to pour into it? You can! The price for a vessel that isn't one of ours is $3.50/ounce (we'll give you an exact price at the shop).
I have a bunch of empty candle vessels and I don't know what to do with them. Do you have a return program?
We sure do! Feel free to bring your clean & empty Penn & Beech candle vessels to your local shop (we can remove the wick), and we'll give you a $1 credit per returned vessel to use towards the purchase of a new candle. Consider a drawer of empty candles a sign that it's time to pour a new one (or ten!).
Candle-Pouring Parties and Events
Do you host candle-pouring parties?
Absolutely - we'd love to host your next birthday party, bachelorette party, girls' night out, team building event, etc.! You can learn all about the candle-pouring process here. What is the maximum number of guests you can host?
There isn't a set limit on the number of guests we can host - it varies between shop location, day of the week, time of day, the type of event you're looking to have, etc. Generally we max table reservations between 16-20 guests, but more than that may be accommodated based on location and availability. Do you host private parties?
We do! Our Carmel, Indiana shop has a separate private event space, and our other shops can be rented out during weekdays for private events (we currently do not have a separate private event space in Columbus). Do you serve any beverages to enjoy while pouring? Can I bring in outside food / beverages for my group?
You are welcome to enjoy an adult beverage while seated at the Fragrance Bar, available in our Indianapolis locations and our Grandview, Ohio locations. Our other Columbus locations (Short North & Worthington) offer N/A beverages.
We cannot accommodate any outside food or drink in the shop, with the exception of private parties.
Do you offer any other scented products besides candles?
We do! You can purchase any of our 100+ fragrances in candle, reed diffuser, or wax tart form.
From what are your candles made?
Our candles are made by hand using a soy wax blend, pure fragrance oils, and cotton paper wicks for a candle that is long lasting, clean burning, and true to scent. They are paraben and phthalate-free, not tested on animals, and blended with premium ingredients with no fillers or chemical additives. Our fragrance oils are a blend of synthetic and essential oils (when available in nature), and do not contain any additional chemicals to artificially enhance their scent throw at a lower cost (as many manufacturers do). They are certified skin-safe.
My candle isn't burning the way I think it should. What should I do?
We take a lot of pride in hand-pouring our candles in store and take many precautions to ensure they are of the highest quality each and every time. With a few simple steps, you can ensure a safe, fragrant, long-lasting burn from your candle. Please review our Candle Care Tips and ensure you are following the steps each and every time you enjoy your candle.

I bought or received a candle as a gift and I don't love the scent. Can I exchange it?
Absolutely! If you live near one of our shops, you are welcome to bring your candle back into the shop to exchange it for a scent you love. Purchased online? Reach out to us at email@example.com and we can make arrangements!
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes - and giving the gift of custom fragrance is the perfect gift! Gift cards can be purchased in shop or online. Gift cards purchased in shop can be placed in an empty vessel for a complete gift. Online gift cards will be emailed to you (the purchaser) for forwarding to your lucky recipient to be used online or in shop.
Can I purchase a custom-scented product on your website?
Yes! You can create your own truly custom candle, reed diffuser, or wax tart on our website - custom fragrance straight to your door!
How do I take advantage of the buy three, get one free deal on your website? Do I need a code?
No code necessary! Simply add four items to your cart - mix and match - and the lowest priced item will automatically be free when you view your cart. You must add four items for one of them to be free - a fourth item will not automatically be added to your cart.
Do you offer free shipping?
We offer free ground shipping for all orders of $50 or more! Orders outside the continental U.S. are subject to shipping rates.
How long will it take for my order to ship?
Every candle is hand-poured to order, so please allow 3-5 business days for us to pour your order before it ships - regardless of what shipping speed you choose. Our standard free shipping is UPS ground from Indianapolis, which can be as quick as one-day to your home once it leaves our production facility.
I am trying to use a gift card on your website but it's not working. Help!
Plastic gift cards that were purchased in one of our brick-and-mortar shops unfortunately do not work on our website. But we can issue you an electronic gift card to use on our website as a replacement! Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the 16 digit gift card code and balance (if you know it), or send us a text to (317)-218-4746 with the same information and your email address and we'll email you an electronic card to use online. I want to place an online order but I haven't smelled your candles / have a question about a specific scent.

I am getting married / having a baby / hosting an event and would love to give your candles as gifts! Do you offer bulk ordering?
We do, and we would love to be a part of your special day! We offer 4oz gift-sized candles that can be personalized with a custom bottom label or fully customized for both the side and bottom labels. Please complete the form here for more information and a detailed quote!
